The usual suspects mostly. These are mini pumpkins in a row with a tomato. Have a very happy Halloween. More pumpkin pictures to come.

Pearls of Wisdom

A photograph through the window by my computer. It's been raining and foggy or both for over a week now, with brief periods of sunshine.

The poem is my own and can be read here

another moment of
stillness
that holds us
above the abyss
safe
for just this instant

Ornamental

I took images of the gates at Cherry Hinton Hall park on the way out from my 'park shoot'. I have a thing about cast iron work, especially the Victorian kind with its total attention to detail and love for organic shapes. This speaks to me of Victorian England and Jack the Ripper. All that's missing is the fog and blood spatter. LOL

Sunlight

Taken with my new Lensbaby Composer Soft Focus lens. I am still experimenting with it and trying to get to grips with it. It's not as easy as it looks, but I liked this one. These are actually the leaves of a winter jasmin but with the lens they came out yellow and full of sunlight. Almost like magic they showed all the sunlight they stored up over the summer (this was taken a week ago, in October).

All other images/textures/brushes my own. Edited with Photoshop.

upon waking

The image was taken this week at the park. I lvoed the wonderful golden leaves of the beech trees, especially as a lot of the other leafy trees are still green. The poem came to me yesterday when I woke up, hence the title. My mind seems to be very active when I am asleep which explains why I am always so tired in the mornings. LOL

the many nights
that found the morning light
glittering on my cheeks
like shards of glass
and my heart
running through my fingers
into the ocean of
might-have-been
and never-will-be
You can read the whole poem here.

Winter Wood

This was an image I took last spring, however it was raining and the image turned out quite grainy. I liked the 'window' effect of the thickett enough though to play around with it and create this. I love the feeling of a magical winter it conveys. It reminds me of Snow White and the Snow Queen.

The Reflection of Love

Created for my 1/52 Project on Facebook. This was week 38/52 and one of the first photographs I took with my new camera.  It is also part of my new series of images for licensing on Arcangel-Images - use this code: SYST-00302.

Sometimes all we get is the reflection of love but the real love eludes us.

The image is of a heart drawn on a steamed up mirror. Created with my own photographs in Photoshop, no stock used.

Falling for Fall

© Sybille Sterk
Do not copy or publish this in any way, shape or form without my written permission.

Autumn (or Fall) is not my favourite time of year. It always reminds me that Summer is over and that Winter is just round the corner, that said, I love the autumnal colours of the leaves against the depth of blue skies and the golden light. There is something special about it... I wanted to create a feeling of falling, partly because of the play on words, but mostly because there's something about falling leaves and falling into heaps of leaves and looking up at the sky with all the red leaves that made me do it. :-)

My own photograph taken with a Lensbaby Composer, Double Glass lens. Edited in Photoshop with my own textures.

Kittens at Play

© Sybille Sterk

Meet Sam & Ollie. Sam the fluffy and Ollie the sleek. :-)These are the best out of hundreds of pictures I shot. They're too fast even for my new camera, unless they're asleep or busy watching the street or a bit of paper on a string. :-) And, they're the most fun I had in months. :-) In case you're wondering, the kittens are 12 weeks old.

Images all my own. Frames from Coffeeshop Blog, texture from Shadowhouse

Suprise:

Here's my surprise and a (not so great) photo to go with it. Some of you may know that our beloved cat died a month ago, and he left a HUGE hole that needed to be filled and here are the two likely candidates (currently playing rough with my son and a bit of paper on string).

the universe next door

I am still playing with the idea of natural mirrors. I used two puddles to show parts of a Victorian streetlight and to me the reflections looked like windows to an alternate universe. Inspired by Fringe, one of my all time favourite TV series.

Image I took recently in the woods around Cambridge (near Byron's Pool, Grantchester). I stuck two feathers into the bark of an old oak. The feathers had been lying at the bottom of the tree trunk.

The words are from my poem truths to be found in the rain
rain drops tattooed the window pane
when I knew
the only truth to be found in this life
is the one carved out from your own skin
